This recipe uses date sugar and if you are wondering what it is, it is powdered dried dates and hundred percent natural. You can use date sugar to sweeten your sweets and desserts, enriching the nutritional profile of any dish. Try making this Chocolatey Date Sugar Banana Bread Or these Date Sugar Walnut cookies that use date sugar. Further, you can add this date sugar in curries like Vegan Jackfruit Kofta Curry, or creamy curries as it is a great plant based sweetener.

Date sugar - to sweeten the halwa. This is  plant based and adds to the nutritional profile. And it is also a great way to sneak some extra nutrients to picky eaters.

Ghee - Adds to the classic flavor and aroma of the halwa.

Nuts and raisins - This recipe uses slivered almonds and raisins this. You may use any kind of nuts that you prefer or have on hand.

Cardamom - adds to the classic halwa flavor and aroma.

    Variations

For flavor variations, try adding cinnamon instead of cardamom, or a little of apple pie spice.

This is a make ahead and easy to make quick dessert. I recommend storing the halwa in the refrigerator for a week and you can freeze it too. If frozen, defrost and serve. If refrigerated, warm in microwave or on stove top and serve warm.

The halwa looks absolutely delectable! Love the choice of date sugar in place of regular refined sugar. I'm sure the crisp, sweet apples must add a gorgeous flavour to the halwa, as must the date sugar.

With so many varieties of apples available in the market at the moment, this is a perfect warm or hot dessert option. Love how you have used date sugar. Putting this apple date sugar halwa on my list to try out. Have some guests over for post Diwali dinner this coming weekend and I'm going to try your recipe out.

Next festival (karthigai?) perhaps I will make this sugar-free and guilt free halwa, RAdha. I have a pack of coconut sugar which might be a good substitute to date sugar..
