These vibrant matcha strawberry cream buns are soft, fluffy, sweet rolls with a hint of orange and with a filling of smooth matcha cream and fresh strawberries bursting with earthy and sweet flavors in every bite.

About these matcha strawberry cream buns

These matcha strawberry cream buns are an ideal mix of comforting textures with unique and satisfying flavors. The silky matcha cream with fresh strawberries all in a soft and fluffy bun is a deliicous treat both for the eyes and the taste buds. They hit at different levels.

These buns are also different from these Matcha and Strawberry Cream MelonPan. The latter has strawberry filling on a matcha bun with a cookie crust top while the former, these buns technically, are filled with matcha cream and fresh strawberries in a sweet roll. They flavors are similar but the texture feel is different. Different forms, different textures, same comforting flavors.

Tangzhong technique is used in these buns and the result is a soft cloud like buns that make you go not for seconds but for multiple servings. The extra hint of orange is another flavor explosion. Based on the likings for this Matcha Orange Loaf flavors, the addition of orange zest builds extra layer of freshness, aroma, and flavor boost. You do not want to miss the layers of flavors in this cream bun as it is perfect!

These matcha strawberry cream buns aren't overly sweet. The earthy, slightly bitter matcha cream pairs beautifully with the natural sweetness and freshness of real strawberries, along with a hint of orange in the cream as well as in the buns gives you a balance in this dessert. The soft, fluffy buns make every bite light and satisfying, like something straight from a bakery.

These are perfect for tea time, brunch, or whenever you're craving something soft, fresh, and indulgent.

They're also visually stunning - the green matcha cream with bright red strawberries with a dusting of confectioner sugar - perfect for serving guests for any occassion!

    Ingredients

You will require the following ingredients to make these vibrant and delicious matcha strawberry cream buns:

All purpose flour - forms the base structure for the soft rolls

Butter - gives softness and flavor to the buns

Sugar - to activate the yeast

    Salt - gives flavor

Instant yeast - leavens the bread

Milk and water - liquids in the recipe to make the dough

Orange zest - boosts aroma and flavor

Matcha - with a slight bitterness gives a balance in flavor to the filled buns and add a pop of color. The color varies depending on the type of matcha powder. Ceremonial grade gives lovely color and flavor.

Heavy cream and cream cheese - give the creamy, silky smooth filling

Fresh strawberry slices - pair well with matcha and balances flavor while adding a pop of color

    Vanilla - enhances flavor

Aquafaba - gives the golden color finish to the rolls on brushing.

Powdered sugar - to sweeten the filling as well as to add a final touch to the rolls with a pleasing bakery style visual treat.

    Serving Suggestions

These matcha strawberry cream buns are ideal to serve for any day and any celebration. When you set these on the table, it makes the day extra special for your loved ones and if you are serving these for a party or teatime, your guests are going to ask for more. Guaranteed!

It is ideal to prep everything ahead and fill the rolls with fresh strawberry slices and cream before serving or a few hours ahead.

    Storage

I recommend storing the leftovers in the refrigerator as the filling has cream and cream cheese. You can store the bread for a couple of days at room temperature and the filling in the refrigerator. You can assemble before serving to save time.
