These eggless tutti fruity cookies are buttery, delicious, nutty, festive shortbread cookies with specks of jewel toned tutti fruity. These cookies are ideal for teatime and holiday gifting.

    What is tutti fruity?

Tutti frutti is a colorful mix of candied fruit. Raw papaya is chopped, sweetened, and dyed into bright jewel-like pieces. These little cubes are chewy, sugary, and packed with flavor, making them a nostalgic ingredient in many Indian bakery-style treats. I can't forget the cream bun or the cream cone that comes studded with these tutti fruity pieces. It is purely magical. You can include these in cookies, icecreams and what not..I love to add these as toppings in my icrecream and in faloodas. Also, I bake these tutti fruity sweet rolls and Eggless Pistachio Rose Tutti Fruity Bundt Cake every holiday for a great festive holiday breakfast and dessert, respectively.

    About these tutti fruity cookies

First of all these cookies are very special to me. It takes me on a nostalgic trip to my childhood days. Though these are festive, bakeries sell these cookies all throughout the year. With the bright color candied fruit bits scattered throughout the cookie, every bite is pure heaven.

In fact, these cookies are also famous as a popular bakery product, Karachi Bakery. This recipe is my copycat recipe for the popular bakery cookies.

These cookies are shortbread slice and bake cookies. Therefore it is easy to make and store the dough and bake when necessary. The buttery nutty cookie with tutti fruity bits is so addictive. Milk powder further enhances the flavor along with the fruit flavoring essence.

The colors of the tutti fruity make it a perfect holiday cookie. These cookies are ideal for cookie exchanges and cookie gifts. Bake a batch and share with your friends and family. Serve them with tea or as a snack or dessert. They are versatile!

In a nutshell, these cookies are a celebration cookies, in looks, flavors, and everything that you could imagine of.

    Ingredients

To bake these delicious and festive tutti fruity cookies, you will need the following ingredients:

All purpose flour - gives the basic structure to the cookies.

Powdered sugar - sweetens the cookie just right enough with the added sweetened tutti fruity.

Cashew - gives a nutty flavor.

Milk powder - adds flavor to the cookies.

Tutti fruity - fruits bits that enhances flavor. If you can't find these in your region, you could use raisins or other chopped dried fruits.

Tutti fruity and rose essence - this tutty fruity essence adds a fruity flavor to the cookies. I buy these in Indian groceries. The rose essence, a drop of it, further enhances the flavor. Alternatively, you could use pineapple flavoring/essence or orange blossom water. Substitute with vanilla if you can't find any of these flavorings.

    Salt - enhances flavor.

    How many cookies?

This recipe makes about 48 cookies ideal for munching, sharing, and gifting. Need more? Just double or triple the recipe!

    Serving Ideas

These tutti fruity cookies are great by themselves. A perfect and satisfying snack! They are also great with tea or coffee. Next time when it is chai time, make sure to serve these cookies. That's my way. In addition, you can also serve these as dessert cookies or in your dessert board along with creamy dips.

    Storage

I store these tutti fruity cookies in an airtight container for a week. Beyond which I haven't tested as we empty these cookies fast!

You can store the cookie dough log in the refrigerator for upto a week. Slice and bake when needed. Alternatively, you can freeze the dough log upto two months.

So colorful and I love the idea of using orange instead of the rose. Thank you for joining me this week!

I love that you made a candied fruit cookie. I planned on adding them to my molasses spice cookies this year...but already had so many other recipes. I'm definitely going to have to do it now...and make these too! YUM!!!

Interesting that it is colored papaya. I didn't even know that tutti fruity was a real think. I just thought it was from a song!
