    Crescent Roll Samosa Wreath

    Dec 13, 2021 · Leave a Comment

This is simple, delicious, mouth-watering, and crowd pleasing appetizer made with crescent roll dough and the famous samosa filling. The vegan samosa filling is always addictive and a winner. Tasty and spicy potato filling is always loved by everyone. This can be a easy baked appetizer for holidays, for a snack. This is amazing for gameday food too!
This recipe uses store-bought crescent roll dough. There is lot to do, particularly around the holiday season. Home-made dough could also be used, but using the Pillsbury crescent roll dough makes life simpler and saves time. We need some kind of semi-homemade fixes now and then to make this fast paced life easier and more enjoyable.
This is a perfect snack and is amazing with masala chai or coffee. This can be served as such, with ketchup, or lip-smacking green chutney. The chutney is easy to make at home but store-bought ones also work.

This recipe makes a big wreath, if needed, this can be made into two smaller wreaths too!

Samosa fillings traditionally have crushed coriander and a little cumin as spices. My kids love garlicky flavored ones, and now and then this version pops up in our home. The samosa filling can be made ahead too. Just when required, warm and use as stuffing. Since the crescent rolls are a little sweeter, I have used a jalapeno-garlic oil drizzle on the dough and the filling also a little spicier. This balances the flavors. If you can't take the heat, adjust the salt and cayenne as per requirements. The garlic-jalapeno can be skipped if you do not like spicy food. But with it, it tastes damn good!

Holidays are here and Sue of Palatable Pastime is hosting an event "Baked Party Appetizers". None of us were able to celebrate last year due to pandemic and this year as we meet and gather around for holidays, we need varieties of delicious appetizers to make the holiday entertaining a breeze. Check at the bottom of the post for tasty baked appetizers the members of #bakingbloggers are sharing today. We share on the second monday of every month on a chosen theme.
I am also linking this to Bakeathon 2021, Sundays on Silverado, and Happiness is Homemade.

If you are a lover of samosa and its cousins, be sure to check out the following mouth-watering, drool worthy  fusion recipes.

    Ingredients

    Makes 16 servings

    Crescent roll - 2 8-oz tubes
Potatoes - 7, medium Yukon gold (mashed makes about 2.5 cups)
    Salt -1 tsp
    Onion - 1/2 cup
Green chili - 1 or 2 finely chopped
    Peas - 1/2 cup, frozen
    Cayenne - 1 tsp
    Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
    Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
    Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
    Oil - 2 tbsp
Ginger - 1/2 tsp, finely chopped
    Jalapenos - 1 tsp, chopped
    For garlic-jalapeno oil
    Oil - 1 tsp
    Jalapenos - 1 tbsp, chopped
    Garlic - 1 clove, chopped
    Cayenne - 1/4 tsp
    Method
Add the garlic, jalapenos, cayenne, and oil. mix and set aside.
Bring the potatoes to a boil and cook till fork tender. Alternatively, cook in a pressure cooker for three whistles. Let it cool. Peel and mash. This will yield about two and half cups.

Heat oil in a pan on medium flame, add the onions, ginger, and jalapenos. Saute for 3-5 minutes till the onions are cooked. Add the mashed potatoes, frozen peas, salt, turmeric, cayenne, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and saute for 2-3 minutes. Switch off the flame. Add the cilantro, mix and set aside.
Open the crescent roll containers, and separate the triangles of dough. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Overlap then a little and arrange them like a flower. Use a cereal bowl as a guide to make an effective shape.

Spread the garlic-jalapeno oil in the center.

Distribute evenly the potato mixture over the garlic-jalapeno mix. Wrap the dough and tuck into the center of the ring, giving the circular wreath shape.
Bake for 22 minutes or until the wreath turns golden brown. Remove from the oven, cool for 10 minutes.

Serve with green chutney or ketchup, or as it is.

I am really intrigued about this dish... Sounds like a perfect and easy thing to make, especially when I am lazy to make Punjabi samosas at home... I would love to try this with puff pastry sheets...
