Sweet and spicy honey with a tang and refreshing, piquant flavors is the definition of this hot honey. Whether you drizzle it on your pizza or on your chaat, this is one that you will fall in love with immediately.
If you are wondering what hot honey is, then it is nothing but your regular honey made spicier. It is also simple to make. I had my questions about it but things changed when I tried. I tried it drizzling on my slice of pizza and trust me, that was the best thing ever! Hot honey is a game changer!
I would compare this chatpata hot honey with our sweet chutney (the sweet tamarind dates chutney that we use as a sweet dip and in our chaat recipe), but made with honey. This makes anything and everything lip-smacking delicious! Try drizzling over this Samosa Chaat Pizza or this Lavash Samosa Chaat Roll, or this Sweet Potato Chaat Bites! This hot honey is simply divine and amazing!
Thinking about what makes this chatpata? Meaning piquant and refreshing? The chaat masala which has a couple of spices and black salt makes a huge difference in flavors. This adds to the refreshing and mouth puckering flavor to our chaat. This is available in stores and homemade chaat masala can also be used.
The following ingredients are required to make this chatpata hot honey:
Honey - I have used pure organic honey in this recipe.
Chaat masala - This adds a unique flavor to the honey. Store-bought or homemade chaat masala can be used in this recipe.
Kashmiri chili powder - I have used Kashmiri red chili powder as it adds an extra deep red color to the honey.
Thai chili - This adds to the heat along with chili powder
Apple cider vinegar - This adds a little zing to the honey.
While making this hot honey, make sure to just simmer the honey and not boil it rapidly. When it is allowed to stand, the flavors infuse well making the honey a lot spicier. The quantity of Thai chili and chili powder could be adjusted as per preference.
This chatpata hot honey can be stored at room temperature for about a month. The green Thai chili could be removed after a day. Filtering or removing with a fork are easier. It becomes a little thicker as it cools, no worries, microwave for 10 seconds and you will have the best hot honey perfect to drizzle on top of your favorite food.
What to serve with?
- This chatpata hot honey is great to use in salads. This adds an extra flavor dimension.
- Use this to drizzle on your chaat recipes instead of regular sweet chutney.
- This can be used to add flavor to your breakfast. A toast with cream cheese or cottage cheese with a nice drizzle of this hot honey is a great way to start your day.
- Use as a dip for fritters.
Ingredients
Honey - ½ plus ½ cup
Apple cider vinegar - 1 tbsp
Kashmiri chili powder - 1 tsp
Chaat masala - ¾ tsp
Thai green chili - 2, chopped
Method
Add half the honey and the Thai chili, Kashmiri chili powder, chaat masala, and apple cider vinegar to a sauce pan. Gently heat over medium heat and simmer for 1 -2 minutes.
Remove from flame and let it cool. Then add the remaining honey and mix. Let it sit for a few hours and then remove the Thai chili pieces.
Transfer to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place until use.
