    Samosa Chaat Pizza

    Dec 9, 2022 · 4 Comments

This is the ultimate and satisfying  dinner if you are a chaat and pizza lover! This samosa chaat pizza gives the fusion of the classic Italian pizza with the mouth watering Indian street food, samosa chole chaat.

I receives samples to aid the process of recipe development. This is a sheet pan pizza and I have used an Anolon baking sheet that spreads the heat uniformly. The handles on this pan give great support and make baking comfortable. This is the best baking sheet out there and I highly recommend Anolon products.

This pizza is designed to give you the comfort of having a chaat in the pizza form. Cheese elevates the flavors of any food and this fusion pizza stands for it.

Samosa chole chaat is a delicious street food with different sauces as toppings. This pizza brings the exact flavors that you would love on your chaat. The pizza is baked samosa filling sprinkled all over the pizza with  chole curry as sauce, and baked, and served with a delicious drizzle of mint and sweet chutney, and sev.

The crust of this pizza is special. The added carom/ajwain seeds add to the flavors of Indian chaat like kachoris. The crust of the pizza is slightly on the thicker side. This pizza is loaded with heavy sauce and toppings and a thicker base perfectly holds all of the toppings and sauces. Thinner crust would make it floppy.

Samosa is a delicious deep fried potato stuffed snack with an all-purpose flour crust. The samosa filling made with mashed potatoes and aromatic spices is so delicious that you could as well gobble it up as such. The samosa filling is sprinkled all over the pizza. This is similar to Potato Pizza only that it has added aromatic spices.  This samosa filling is also versatile to add in many delicious recipes like Puff Pastry Samosa Pinwheels, Crescent Roll Samosa Wreath, Lavash Samosa Chaat Roll, Samosa Mummies, Samosa Muffins.

A thicker version of chole, a garbanzo bean curry, is spread as sauce and it is a chunkier one. I prefer a chunkier version as this gives a textural bite. Based on your preference, some of the garbanzo beans can also be mashed in the sauce. Garbanzo beans also provide protein.

Finely chopped onions are mostly added in many chaats, and so I have used sliced onions to purport the same experience. Tomatoes may also be used.

The mint chutney, sweet tamarind dates chutney, sev (a thin noodle like crunchy deep fried snack made with gram flour), chaat masala (a spice mixture that has piquant flavor) are delicious toppings that are drizzled on any chaat. These can be homemade or store-bought. The thin sev and pomegranate are optional. Pomegranate adds to the vibrant colors and a sweet bite here are there.  It is possible to customize these toppings based on individual preferences. A final sprinkle of freshly chopped cilantro notches up the aroma and flavor.

Lastly, pizza always means cheesy. Sometimes when you start making, you might see that you do not have a cheese block in your fridge. The mozzarella cheese was all used up. All I had were a few mozzarella cheese sticks. We used that to make this pizza. Shredded or fresh mozzarella would be great to use here too. For a flavor variation, you may try with jack or cheddar or a combination of cheeses. Potatoes are like blank canvas and they pair very well with many cheese varieties.

For variations, the pizza can be made in the traditional circular shape too. I preferred the sheet pan version for this loaded pizza, as the square slices give extra support to hold the heavy toppings.

The pizza crust, the samosa filling, the chole sauce, along with the toppings give you the best of both the cuisines. This loaded pizza is very filling. This can feed 6-8 easily depending on their hunger. One slice fills you up. Serve with fresh Mango Lassi for a great meal.

This scrumptious sheet pan pizza with street food flavors is my share for Bakeathon 2022. Earlier I had shared Pumpkin Banana Bread, Eggless Banana Almond Gingerbread, and Pandesal. This is my fourth share for baked recipes event.

This sheet pan pizza is unique and if you love it, you'll also love these pizza with different flavor profiles from your regular ones.

    Method

Activate the yeast with warm water and a teaspoon sugar. Add this to bread machine, followed by flour, salt, and olive oil. Set the machine in dough cycle and let it knead and double for an hour.

In the meantime, cook, peel, and mash the potatoes. Heat oil in a pan, add the cumin, Thai chili, ginger and garlic. Let it bloom for 30-40 seconds. Add the mashed potatoes, salt, cayenne, turmeric, garam masala, cumin powder, and coriander powder, dry mango powder, and black salt. Mix and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add cilantro and transfer to a bowl and set aside.
Return the same pan to the flame, heat oil. Add the cumin seeds, ginger, and garlic, followed by onions. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until the onions turn translucent.
Add the chole masala, cayenne, turmeric, mix and fry for 30 seconds. Add the tomato puree, salt, mango powder, black salt, water and cook for 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle cilantro and set aside.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Punch and knead the dough. Transfer it to Anolon baking sheet to fit that baking sheet. Make a small wall on the edges such that it looks like a well. Par bake the crust for 9-10 minutes.
Spread the chole sauce evenly on the par baked crust.
Add the samosa filling evenly on top of the chole sauce.
Sprinkle the onion slices and cheese.

Bake at 450 degrees for 7-8 minutes.

Remove from the oven. Drizzle the mint chutney and sweet tamarind chutney.

Top with sev, pomegranate, and cilantro. Cut into 8 pieces. Serve hot/warm.
