    Dessert Apple Pizza #BreadBakers

    Feb 9, 2021 · 24 Comments

Today is National Pizza Day! Baking a pizza, sharing the day with friends and family, and enjoying the day is the best thing to do celebrate. I guess there may not be anyone having a dislike for pizza. This Italian delicacy is devoured by everyone. And this cheesy food is the "food mantra" for the younger kids. We try to make quick version pizzas or pizza made with anything as a base to quickly satisfy the pizza hungry kids.

In our #BreadBakers group, today we are sharing recipes for pizza. Karen is hosting today's event. Any pizza recipe can be shared- pan pizza, grandma pizza, deep-dish pizza, Chicago style pizza, flatbread pizza, Detroit Style Pizza, English muffin pizza, Neapolitan pizza, and/or grilled pizza (or any other type of pizza). In other words, share your favorite pizza recipe.  #BreadBakers is a group of bread loving bakers who get together once a month to bake bread with a common ingredient or theme. You can see all our lovely bread by following our Pinterest board right here. Links are also updated after each event on the #BreadBakers home page. We take turns hosting each month and choosing the theme/ingredient.

A pizza can be a sweet one too! I mean a dessert pizza. Though I (we) love spicy pizzas, I (we) love to have apple pizza. Have you tried eating apples and mozzarella, or apples and cheddar, or apple grilled cheese.....If you love those definitely you will love this dessert pizza. We love apple pie, cheesecake, pizza, grilled cheese, caramel........and this pizza is a combo of all. Spread a cream cheese sauce to the pizza base, top with apple pie filling, a little mozzarella, bake, sprinkle with cream cheese sauce, and caramel. This is equivalent to HEAVEN!

Whenever we bake pizza, I try to make this dessert apple pizza too. I make a lot of fusion pizzas and hence one of my chaat pizza. But my daughter convinced me to post this (an excuse to take a better pic, we are apple pie lovers:-)). This is one of our favorite and hence sharing the recipe today for #BreadBakers. Next time when you make pizza try this with a portion of the dough or when you make an apple pie (or just the filling if you are like me:-)). I guarantee that you would make it every time. I make sweet dough if I am planning to make the dessert pizza. Increase the sugar a little and decrease the salt in your basic pizza dough. Or just use the same pizza dough, it works too! In any and every possible way, like the savory pizzas, these dessert ones too taste divine.

    Ingredients

    Makes 1 12-in Pizza

    For the pizza base

    All-purpose flour - 1.5 cups
    Olive oil - 1 tbsp
    Salt - 1/2 tsp
    Sugar - 2 tbsp
Active dry yeast - 1 tsp
    Water - 1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp

    For the apples

    Granny-smith apples - 3, (makes 3 and 1/4 cups, peeled and chopped)
    Salt - a pinch
    Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
    Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
    Cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
    Water - 1/4 cup
    All-purpose flour - 1 tbsp
    Butter - 1 tbsp

    Cream cheese sauce

Cream cheese - 6 oz, room temperature
    Brown sugar - 3 tbsp
    Vanilla - 1 tsp
    Cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
    Topping - Mozarella - 1/4 cup
    cornmeal - 1 tsp
    To drizzle
Heavy whipping cream - 2 tbsp (to make drizzle)
    Caramel - 2 to 3 tbsp

    Method

Activate the yeast in warm water with sugar. Add salt to flour in a bowl. Mix and make a well. Add the activated yeast and olive oil. Knead to a soft dough. Apply oil on the bowl surface and on top of the dough too. Cover and let it double in size for an hour.

In the meantime, heat butter in a pan. Add all the ingredients for the apple topping and cook for 7 minutes. Keep aside.

To make the cream cheese sauce, add the ingredients together and mix till combined. Reserve two tbsp of it for making the drizzle.

Combine the reserved cream cheese spread and whipping cream to make the drizzle sauce.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. After an hour, punch the dough, knead a couple of times. Roll into a 12-in circle. Sprinkle a little cornmeal on a 12-in pizza pan. Transfer the dough to the pan. Spread the cream cheese sauce. Now add the apple topping evenly on top of the cream cheese. Sprinkle mozzarella. Bake for 10 minutes.

Once it is baked, drizzle with the sauce and caramel.

    Slice and enjoy!

When my girls were younger they loved to go to Cici's Pizza where the pizza buffet has all sorts of savory pizzas and a couple of dessert choices too. I've never made a sweet one at home though. Your lovely apple pizza has me wondering why not?!
