    Piquant Veggie Bagel Spread #FoodieExtravaganza

    Dec 2, 2020 · 34 Comments

When you wake up, not everyday you may be a having a sweet tooth. You may not want to have jam, oats, muffins....Sometimes it so happens that you like something fresh, refreshing, stimulant, sour, salty, spicy, savory.....kind of breakfast. When you crave for such foods, jaljira or chaat masala may be handy. They give an elevating freshness and piquant flavor satisfying the cravings.

Black salt is kind of a salt which has a refreshing taste, a little pungent and is used in Indian cuisine, mainly street snacks. A little lemony too. It's not lemon salt. It has a pink hue and it can step up the flavor of any dish. It is a processed salt in which it is heated with some spices, seed and herbs that gives its flavor. Chaat masala and Jaljira powders have spices cumin, ginger, pepper, dried mango powder, black salt, coriander, and Asafoetida. These mixes elevate the flavors of any food and give a refreshing and satisfying taste. These spice mix are available (many brands too) in Indian grocery stores (they are a little cheaper), in amazon, or can be made at home too.
    Black Salt

    Chaat masala and Jaljira powder
This spread is creamy and rich in flavor. The creamy cream cheese and mayo is well balanced with herbs cilantro and mint, black salt, and the spice powders. I am using this recipe for the 4-5 years. I always thought to post this, but it never happened. Being part of a group helps you post in time. When I saw the name Bagels or everything that brings the bagel to plate in Foodie Extravaganza, I knew I have to post this spread as it is our favorite. In the beginning we had with bagels. But, we love it so much, we started to have with toast, plain bread, in chapati rolls, and even as a veggie dip. This can be refrigerated for 4-6 days, but mine never lasted that long. I would be making another batch.

Foodie Extravaganza is where we celebrate obscure food holidays by cooking and baking together with the same ingredient or theme each month. Posting day is always the first Wednesday of each month. If you are a blogger and would like to join our group and blog along with us, come join our Facebook page.

    Ingredients

    Vegannaise - 1 and 1/4 cup
    Cream cheese - 1 and 1/4 cup
Black salt  - 1/4 tsp plus 1/8 tsp
    Carrots - 1/4 cup, grated
Onion - 1/4 cup, finely chopped
Bell pepper - 1/4 cup, finely chopped
    Cilantro 1/4 cup,
    Mint 1/4 cup
    Green chilli-  1 or 2
    Chat masala-1/4 tsp
    Jaljira powder - 1/4 tsp
    Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
    Method
Bring the cream cheese to room temperature. Add the cheese, mayo, chopped carrots, onion and bell pepper to the bowl. Add the jaljira, chat masala, black salt to it.

In a small blender or spice grinder, blend mint, cilantro, green chilli, lemon juice and 1/8 tsp black salt. Add it to the cream cheese mixture bowl.

Mix everything well so that there is no lumps. Enjoy with bagel.
    A complete breakfast

    Tips
I always use vegannaise. The taste would be perfect with any kind of mayo too.
Make sure to bring the cream cheese to room temperature. This helps in even mixing without having lumps.
If you don't have the spice powders, try without them too. The mint and cilantro with lemon would give a boost of flavor to the cream cheese spread.
